Uruj Anjum
Supervisor
I’m Uruj (she/her), founder of Saiyna Therapy, an online psychotherapy and clinical supervision practice offering attachment-based counselling and supervision across the UK. I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy-accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor, CPCAB lecturer, clinical supervisor, and speaker, with over 13 years’ clinical experience across psychotherapy, NHS healthcare, education, and clinical leadership.
My work is grounded in attachment-based psychotherapy and informed by a trauma-aware, relational approach. Before training as a therapist, I spent nine years working in NHS genetics, supporting individuals, couples, and families navigating inherited conditions, uncertainty, and complex decision-making. This background continues to shape my therapeutic and supervisory work, particularly where identity, loss, medical trauma, and ethical complexity are present.
I am Pakistani-Canadian and now based in the UK. I bring a strong awareness of culture, migration, power, belonging, and difference into my clinical and supervisory practice, working in ways that are reflective, anti-oppressive, and culturally attuned.
Individual & Couples Therapy
I offer online attachment-based counselling for individuals and couples, with particular experience in:
-
Perinatal mental health
-
Genetic and inherited diagnoses (including Huntington’s disease)
-
Identity, grief, and loss
-
Relationship patterns shaped by early attachment experiences
In individual therapy, I support clients to understand emotional patterns, triggers, regulation, and relationship dynamics through an attachment lens, working collaboratively and at a pace that feels safe.
In couples therapy, I work relationally and attachment-informed, often drawing on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help partners understand emotional needs, soften reactive cycles, rebuild trust, and develop more secure connection.
Across all my work, I aim to create a warm, reflective space where emotional life can be explored within the context of relationships, culture, beliefs, neurodiversity, and lived experience.
Clinical Supervision & Supervision of Supervision
I provide attachment-informed clinical supervision, including supervision of supervision, for counsellors and psychotherapists at different stages of practice. My supervisory stance is anti-oppressive and relational, with careful attention to power, identity, ethics, and practitioner wellbeing.
I understand supervision as a secure-base relationship — a reflective space that supports learning, ethical practice, professional integration, and the emotional impact of therapeutic work, while holding both the clinical material and the practitioner with care.
Teaching & Supporting Attachment Therapists
Alongside my clinical practice, I teach on CPCAB Diplomas in Attachment at Optima, and I regularly support Level 5 and Level 7 trainees seeking personal therapy or clinical supervision during training.
I am especially attuned to how attachment training can activate personal material, self-doubt, and emotional stretch. As a tutor, I have a strong understanding of the academic, reflective, and professional demands of attachment-based training, and I enjoy supporting therapists to develop confidence, integration, and a secure professional identity.
