Why not take a proactive approach to mental health issues in the workplace? Mental Health First Aid Training will enable your staff to identify early warning signs and symptoms and have the confidence to approach and assist?

Why is understanding and addressing mental health in the workplace important?
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have enhanced their First Aid guidance to help employers understand the existing need to consider mental health alongside physical health when undertaking their ‘needs assessment’.   As well as the legal requirement to assess employees’ risk of workplace stress, and respond appropriately, the additional benefits are; savings on costs due to sickness absence, replacing staff, increased productivity and reduced accident rates.

A recent Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development study highlighted the impact that mental ill health can have on organisations. The study found that:
  • 37% of sufferers are more likely to get into conflict with colleagues
  • 57% find it harder to juggle multiple tasks
  • 80% find it difficult to concentrate
  • 62% take longer to do tasks
  • 50% are potentially less patient with customers/clients.
The study also found that, for the first time, stress is the major cause of long-term absence.

What our clients think of the training!
I was thoroughly engaged with the MHFA course I undertook with Jo as our trainer, from start to end. Jo seemed approachable, honest and knowledgeable from the outset. Our training group held some insightful discussions and I think nearly all of the group contributed at some point throughout the course, which I have found rare in other training, and I believe Jo’s rapport with us had a lot to do with this. Jo acknowledged everyone’s comments, whatever they were, and used them to generate further discussion or provoke further thought or reflection, while guiding us back to the original focus point. I could have listened to Jo talk for much longer; for me Jo made the topic very relatable and comprehensible.

On a more personal note, thank you so much for your time and sharing your knowledge throughout the course, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am taking a lot away with me. While it’s increased my understanding, it’s also increased my interest in human thought and behaviour and I hope I get the chance at some point to do some more learning around this.
